Milling is the process of breaking down solid materials into smaller pieces. There are a variety of mill types available depending on the desired result. Mills can use variations of cutting, grinding, or crushing, and may combine several operations to achieve the correct output.

In pharmaceutical processing, there are a wide range of production requirements for milling machines, ranging from high pressure rolling mills to crush course materials down before further processing, down to ultrafine mills that can produce particle sizes of as little as 0.5µm, as well as highly specialised milling systems for use in lab and R&D contexts.

Technology for milling in the pharmaceutical industry

 Vekamaf can advise on a wide range of milling equipment across a broad range of pharmaceutical applications. For primary milling our range of hammer mills and cone mills can take primary media to a state where it can be ready for further processing. Utilising the latest energy efficient technologies means our range of mills can decrease operating costs as well as increasing quality.

For the gentle crushing of a range of materials from soft to delicate and brittle, Vekamaf can help with a range of milling solutions. For example, our flake crusher has a gentle action for minimum fines generation, and it is often used for crushing lumped salts and hygroscopic substances, deagglomeration after drying and mixing, crushing of flakes to granulate, recycling of tablets and dust-free crushing.

For laboratory work and ultrafine milling, we can advise on a complete range of mills of a suitable scale for R&D and testing work. Ultrafine milling equipment includes speciality spiral jet mills for a range of specific applications.
